Dear Colleagues,
We wish to update you on a recent development regarding our formal communication to NAMMED concerning the listing of practitioners under its 150% endorsement initiative.
NAMMED has chosen to respond via its legal representatives. Their attorneys have informed us that they are in the process of obtaining instructions from their client and will provide a substantive response in due course. In the interim, they have reserved all of their client’s rights and remedies.
While we welcome proper process and engagement, the decision to escalate the matter legally — instead of engaging constructively with the professional community — raises concerns. One would reasonably expect that a medical aid fund of NAMMED's standing would recognise the reputational and ethical risks of disseminating practitioner names without consultation or transparency, particularly given the clear guidance issued by the Namibian Competition Commission in December 2024.
We want to assure our members that the NPPF has responded appropriately and will continue to hold all funds accountable where practitioner rights, dignity, and commercial standing are placed at risk. This matter is ongoing, and we will keep you updated as it unfolds.
Kind regards,
Dr Jürgen Hoffmann
